First Aid Junction nearly ready to launch for ITG Instructors!

As we have been talking about we are nearly ready to launch the new national directory website so we need all of our instructors to go on to the draft site and register your latest details. Once your on the site then people can find you and then you do the deal with them direct and you keep all the money.

The site will develop into a reference for people to find you and information on first as as well. It will also be a good reference for finding assessors in your area and you to find extra work as assessors and other day rate work.

This site is not fully live, we have only put it up so that you can register. Web links on sites are very important so to help your site ranking and this directory sites ranking, we will put web links to you in exchange for one back to the site (email to say you have done it and we return the link). We can also do this from our main instructor pages as well, simply link to First Aid Instructor main site and First Aid Instructor Training new site and email us and tell us where you want the link to return to .  If Liz has done your site then tell her and she can do this for you.

REGISTER NOW at First Aid Junction Click the Instructor Registration link on the left.

We will let you know when the site is fully live and you can check your entry.  If you want to add extra counties then there is a paid option for this, email for more details or check out the site when fully live.  You can choose up to 3 counties, don’t just put UK or the country!  This is for ITG Instructors only, if your not an ITG instructor then email us.

As the site is not fully live then the links will not work.

EFR Primary Care for Schools

EFR Primary Care for Schools – NEWS FROM EFR FOR EFR INSTRUCTORS ONLY

Just like other industries in Great Britain, schools are required to adhere to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. This means they must provide adequate first aid provision for their employees with consideration also, in their risk assessments, for students and members of the public visiting their site.

In some circumstances the approved EFR First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work programmes are the courses of choice, however, depending on risk assessments it may also suit some schools to use the Primary Care or the Primary and Secondary Care programme.

Due to Instructor demand Emergency First Response now launches the EFR Primary Care for Schools programme.

The programme content is the EFR Primary Care course and may be conducted using video guided or independent study approaches. Should a school need the programme to be slightly customised to include extra skills or information not already in the programme, the instructor may include these, however, only skills and information from other EFR programmes may be included. Course completion is registered through use of the EFR for Schools Course Completion Card, which is included in the Primary Care for Schools participant pack (product no. 60222). Once completed, the instructor issues the participant with the tear off card at the bottom of the form and returns the top half to Emergency First Response for registration. There is no other completion card issued for this course. The instructor may also wish to complete an EFR wall certificate for participants.

The flexibility and value for money this programme offers makes it ideal for schools looking for quality first aid training at affordable prices. To find out more, contact the Training Department on 0117 300 7238 or, to order your EFR Primary Care for Schools pack, contact your regular Product Consultant.

Health and Safety Executive Recommends Annual Refresher Training

Along with several other changes to the First Aid at Work training regime, the Health and Safety Executive now highly recommends annual refresher training.

Whether the first-aider has completed the First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work course, it is recommended that they refresh their skills every 12 months and that the programme last a minimum of three hours.

For more information please contact us. Remember you do not need a centre to offer these courses.

Data Protection Act 1998 ˆ A Guide

Posted by firstaidinstructor on December 23, 2009

When operating as a business within the UK, we are often charged with retaining information relating to our clients, customers and potential customers. We often also make use of this information for marketing and promotional purposes. This information is often stored on a computer system and may include names, addresses and email addresses amongst other items. If this is the case, then this information is referred to as data, and can be used to identify an individual. If you or your business does this, then you will generally be considered as the Data Controller.

As a Data Controller you have some responsibilities with regards to the information you store and process in relation to your business, and some responsibilities with regards to notifying the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) if you intend to process this data.

Processing of the data includes:

organisation, adaptation or alteration
retrieval, consultation or use
disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available
alignment, combination, blocking, erasure or destruction
You may also store some data relating to customers, suppliers and clients in paper format as well as electronic format. For example, you have paper participant record files in a filing cabinet, and a member of staff copies the name, date of birth and email address to your electronic diary so that you can contact the individual by email. This electronic storage forms part of a filing system by which the individual can be identified and therefore you will need to notify the ICO of your registration as a Data Controller.

If, as a facility owner or instructor, you are storing any part of your customer records electronically, you are obliged under the Data Protection Act to notify the ICO of your position as a data controller. Should all of your participant record files be stored on paper, in a filing cabinet and none of your student details are stored electronically (remember, a spreadsheet is an ordered list of data), the act will not apply.

For further information on the Data Protection Act please contact the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

A full transcript of the Data Protection Act may be found at the Office Of Public Sector Information.
