HSE Removal of Direct Approvals

Posted by firstaidinstructor on May 4, 2012

There is a lot of information being sent out in relation to the HSE and First Aid at Work.  We have been aware for sometime of the HSE’s intention to cease monitoring and approving First Aid at Work related courses (FAW and EFAW). We have not to date sent out information regarding this matter because nothing has been decided and no formal decisions or information has been sent out to us as an HSE centre by the HSE.

The one fact that is true is that the HSE are stopping direct approval of first aid in the workplace as a result of the Lofthouse report.  This will not affect any of our instructors or centres as a credible certificate will still be required by businesses and our courses will always comply.  The HSE will set out the course material that we at ProTrainings use to then issue the certificates, similar to the way our other certificates work.  Nothing is going to change immediately and there is no need to panic. We have been working on changes for sometime and this is one reason why we made all our courses CPD Certified recently to ensure you have desirable and recognised qualifications for all your courses.

One other thing that seems to be happening is that the onus will be on the employers to ensure that any course they put their staff on is certified and run through a credible organisation (like us) or Ofqual QCF (through us).  We are prepared if these courses do take the Ofqual QCF route or to give you a choice on the type of certificate you want to provide to your customers. Unlike other organisations, our certificates can be validated online so employers can prove they are genuine, we will continue to meet all the guidelines for courses when released.

Remember no decision about the future of First Aid at Work courses has been made yet and we will continue to provide you and your customers with benefits such as free CPD Certified certificate to download, free manuals and downloads, refresher reminders, free advertising for your courses, free online booking, weekly emails and you will still earn on commissions etc.

We are watching this very closely and will let you know when something is decided and the likely date will possibly be as soon as October 2012 but more likely from what we hear April 2013. We will make sure that everything is ready well in plenty of time for the changes.

RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed and PowerPoints updated

Posted by firstaidinstructor on April 7, 2012

As of 6 April 2012, RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed. The trigger point has increased from over three days’ to over seven days’ incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened).

Incapacitation means that the worker is absent or is unable to do work that they would reasonably be expected to do as part of their normal work.

Employers and others with responsibilities under RIDDOR must still keep a record of all over-three day-injuries – if the employer has to keep an accident book, then this record will be enough.

You must still keep a record of the accident if the worker has been incapacitated for more than three consecutive days. If you are an employer, who must keep an accident book under the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations 1979, that record can be treated as a record for the purposes of RIDDOR.

The deadline by which the over-seven-day injury must be reported has also increased to fifteen days from the day of the accident.  New leaflet available at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg453.pdf and the EFAW, FAW, FAWR and Manual Handling PowerPoints have been changed and on the dashboard.

CPD Certified on our online and some classroom courses

Posted by firstaidinstructor on March 23, 2012

All our online courses are now CPD Certified and some of our classroom ones as well.  We have submitted the rest of the courses and will advise when they are approved.  This will mean that the courses can be used against CPD requirements which will expand markets.

Now the very serious bit, do not use the CPD certified logo on any of your material as the copyright for the logo is protected by the CPD Certification Service.  It will shortly appear on our certificates and websites for the courses that they have approved already.   More information to follow on CPD and the rules.

New website to keep you up to date, communicate with each other and allow us to target help to those who want it.

Posted by firstaidinstructor on November 3, 2011

We have launched a new tool to keep you up to date and share ideas by launching a new blog.  The existing ITG blog will still be live but this is a little different. The problem we have is to keep you up to date with changes and ideas but not to keep filling your inbox with emails so we have added www.instructorblogs.co.uk so that you can find news and information and share ideas.

The new blog home page has general news and then there are seperate groups for different subjects, some are closed to people who are that type of instructor like Pet and Moving and Positioning of People.  Join all the groups that will be of interest and we then know who to help in these sectors.  You can comment and ask as well from the groups.

The ProTrainings group will cover all the small changes to our system and you are automatically a member of that group.  If there is a group you want to join but not qualified yet like Pet Instructor email me and i will send you details.

We have added live chat to the site for some questions online.

Added to this the new site has set everyone their own blog.  Now you all have a blog which can be used as a sales website or a good way of communicating with your customers. Having a blog to be part of our site will help you with Google placement and generating leads.

Go to www.instructorblogs.co.uk and log in with your ProTrainings details and start by joining groups and add me as a friend so that I know who is using the site and then we will direct marketing to the right people.

The site is new so you will see more updates so visit it often.  We will still email out other news form time to time and auto email updated from this ITG blog where registered.

Use the blog to ask questions and share ideas as the more ideas you have the more you will sell.  If you are in-house training only the site will be useful as it gives you the latest updates to the ProTrainings sites so you can benefit from the new features.

If you have any problems logging in or would like to become a ProTrainings Instructor please email rather than phone, thank you.
