Help us spread the word, we have a free video first aid course for every school child. We need to get the out to schools and clubs to sign up for free. See www.studentfirstaid.co.uk and like our Facebook page at Facebook.com/studentfirstaid Schools can sign up and choose online only or we can offer a practical session as well. First aid is a very important skill for all children to learn and completing an online course will expand first aid into schools. If a practical module is needed then we will contact our instructors to complete this part.
It works by the school registering and they get a school dashboard like our instructor or company dashboards. They can either opt for 100% online or blended, which creates a code which starts “SCH” and that relates to a school or class so when entered on the home page the child gets access free to the course.
This is an excellent chance to expand first aid awareness and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of the project. If you know any schools or clubs who want to register ask them to register here or email their details to us. Please email any ideas to support@protrainings.eu, this is not a normal course that you can set up from your dashboard. If everyone helps to get this free course in to their local schools and clubs it will help the project become a success. Thank you.

There is a lot of information being sent out in relation to the HSE and First Aid at Work. We have been aware for sometime of the HSE’s intention to cease monitoring and approving First Aid at Work related courses (FAW and EFAW). We have not to date sent out information regarding this matter because nothing has been decided and no formal decisions or information has been sent out to us as an HSE centre by the HSE.
The one fact that is true is that the HSE are stopping direct approval of first aid in the workplace as a result of the Lofthouse report. This will not affect any of our instructors or centres as a credible certificate will still be required by businesses and our courses will always comply. The HSE will set out the course material that we at ProTrainings use to then issue the certificates, similar to the way our other certificates work. Nothing is going to change immediately and there is no need to panic. We have been working on changes for sometime and this is one reason why we made all our courses CPD Certified recently to ensure you have desirable and recognised qualifications for all your courses.
One other thing that seems to be happening is that the onus will be on the employers to ensure that any course they put their staff on is certified and run through a credible organisation (like us) or Ofqual QCF (through us). We are prepared if these courses do take the Ofqual QCF route or to give you a choice on the type of certificate you want to provide to your customers. Unlike other organisations, our certificates can be validated online so employers can prove they are genuine, we will continue to meet all the guidelines for courses when released.
Remember no decision about the future of First Aid at Work courses has been made yet and we will continue to provide you and your customers with benefits such as free CPD Certified certificate to download, free manuals and downloads, refresher reminders, free advertising for your courses, free online booking, weekly emails and you will still earn on commissions etc.
We are watching this very closely and will let you know when something is decided and the likely date will possibly be as soon as October 2012 but more likely from what we hear April 2013. We will make sure that everything is ready well in plenty of time for the changes.

Not only have we updated our online course websites but we have now added lots of downloads and links on the sites under student downloads (under red button). This now means that there are many more reasons to buy online course and class courses as they get more. We have also added links to the relevant HSE documents so student can easily access further information on each subject.
Some free downloads available are: Workplace accident book, childcare accident book, child medications consent, personal medical information sheet, pet emergency contacts, home emergency contact sheet, workplace emergency contact sheet. There will be others added soon and if you have any ideas let us know.

As of 6 April 2012, RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed. The trigger point has increased from over three days’ to over seven days’ incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened).
Incapacitation means that the worker is absent or is unable to do work that they would reasonably be expected to do as part of their normal work.
Employers and others with responsibilities under RIDDOR must still keep a record of all over-three day-injuries – if the employer has to keep an accident book, then this record will be enough.
You must still keep a record of the accident if the worker has been incapacitated for more than three consecutive days. If you are an employer, who must keep an accident book under the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations 1979, that record can be treated as a record for the purposes of RIDDOR.
The deadline by which the over-seven-day injury must be reported has also increased to fifteen days from the day of the accident. New leaflet available at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg453.pdf and the EFAW, FAW, FAWR and Manual Handling PowerPoints have been changed and on the dashboard.

The emergencySMS service lets deaf, hard of hearing and speech-impaired people in the UK send an SMS text message to the UK 999 service where it will be passed to the police, ambulance, fire rescue, or coastguard.
Simply by sending an SMS message to 999 you can call for help and the emergency services will be able to reply to you. You can register at http://www.emergencysms.org.uk/registering_your_mobile_phone.php

The British Heart Foundation is urging people to forget “mouth-to-mouth” and to concentrate on chest compressions when performing CPR. ”Hands-only CPR” has previously been supported by the Resuscitation Council (UK). But it is now being promoted in a new advertising campaign featuring footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones. New polling by the BHF suggests many feel worried about the idea of giving the “kiss of life”.
Watch the video click here and register on our new blog for more detailed updates at www.instructorblogs.co.uk This is nothing new in our training and the course is taught the same and full CPR training must still be trained.
The official position of the BHF is now that anyone who does not have CPR training should ignore the kiss of life in favour of hard and fast compressions in the centre of the chest. A new poll conducted across the UK and involving 2,000 respondents showed nearly half were put off from performing CPR because of a lack of knowledge.
A fifth worried specifically about the thought of the kiss of life or about contracting an infectious disease. Four in 10 people were worried about being sued if they did something wrong, even though the BHF argues no such case has ever succeeded in Britain. ”The kiss of life can often be daunting for untrained bystanders who want to help when someone has collapsed with a cardiac arrest,” said Ellen Mason, senior cardiac nurse at the BHF.
She said the kiss of life remained the “gold standard” of CPR, but added if a person had not had training the best option would be to just do chest compressions.
Bee Gees hit - The BHF is also suggesting people hum to the Bee Gees hit Stayin’ Alive, to get the tempo of chest compressions right, although others have in recent months questioned whether this is appropriate, suggesting it may lead to compressions which are too shallow. The new BHF advert features Vinnie Jones in his traditional hardman guise, administering chest compressions to a Bee Gees backbeat after being thrown an unconscious body by his henchmen.
Commenting on the new campaign, he said: “There really shouldn’t be any messing about when it comes to CPR. If you’re worried about the kiss of life just forget it and push hard and fast in the centre of the chest.
“Hands-only CPR should give have-a-go heroes the confidence to step in and help when somebody is in cardiac arrest.” Ms Mason said everyone should learn what to do: “Thirty thousand people have a cardiac arrest in the UK every single year and half of those are witnessed, but in most cases no-one acts, no-one knows what to do, people panic. ”If it was us, we would all want our loved ones and ourselves to be saved, wouldn’t we?”

We have adapted all our Anaphylaxis courses to include the new Jext Auto Injector. This auto injector is not a “new version of the epi-pen” it is a different brand and has a lot of benefits over other auto injectors.
- Longer shelf life of 2 years
- Better temperature range allowing for a more stable drug
- Needle cover when activated
- Comes in a case to keep safe
- Simply put on the leg then pushed to fire the unit but could be used the same as an epi-pen if by mistake
If you look at our youtube channel you will find some training videos. We have added a Anaphylaxis student manual to the course and updated the PowerPoint. You will need a Jext trainer and the Epi-Pen Trainer to show both systems. The Jext is not available in all area’s yet but this is expanding rapidly across the country so both systems will be available next year and some retraining will be needed. On completion of the ProTrainings Anaphylaxis course students will receive the free student manual and other features as well as the wall certificate/wallet card. Jext trainers are available from our online first aid shop.
We will be adding Jext to our online sites in the New Year and adding a Anaphylaxis course online soon.
For more information please email support@protrainings.eu or call 01223 911805
