The HSE only approve two types of course. The three day First Aid at Work (FAW) with its two day requalification and the one day Emergency First Aid at Work course, and no others. Other courses are taught under the guidelines of the HSE and other bodies. We have many courses taught online, 100% classroom or a blended course mixing the two. Which course you need will depend on your workplace risk assessment.
First Aid at Work 3-day HSE approved course
This is an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor. It is 18 contact hours and conducted over a minimum of 3 days (although can be longer as long as each lesson at least 2 hours contact time). The certificate is valid for 3 years and then you can attend a 2 day requalification as long as your certificate is still in date. You will be assessed on completion of the course by 1 or 2 assessors (not the instructor). This course must be taught 100% in classroom and not online. First Aid at Work 12-hour Requalification
This is an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor. You can only attend this course if you have an in date First Aid at Work certificate (can be by any agency). The course is 12 contact hours and must be carried out over at least 2 days and you will be assessed on completion of the course by 1 or 2 assessors (not the instructor). The certificate is valid for 3 years and then you can attend another 2 day requalification as long as your certificate is still in date. If your certificate is not in date then you will have to attend the full 3 days again. This course must be taught 100% in classroom and not online. Emergency First Aid at Work 6-hour
This is an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor. This course must be at least 6 contact hours and run over a minimum of 1 day. The certificate is valid for 3 years and to renew you need to attend another EFAW course. This course must be taught 100% in classroom and not online. The HSE recommend the all first aiders complete an annual first aid refresher courses and our online course at www.profaw.co.uk meets this requirement.
HSE Recommended Classroom Courses Offered:
This course is not HSE approved and has never been approved as it is taught under the guidelines of the HSE First Aid at Work Regulations 1981. Most people now opt for the EFAW in order to comply. It is a useful addition to meet the requirements of the HSE for first aiders in the workplace. The certificate is valid for 3 years and to renew you attend another appointed persons course. The HSE recommend the all first aiders complete an annual first aid refresher courses and our online course at www.profaw.co.uk meets this requirement.
Paediatric Adult/Infant/Child 12 hour - Also as a blended course
This is not an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor. The course meets and exceeds the requirements laid down by OFSTED, SURESTART and the NCMA for people needing a 2 day 12 contact hour first aid course for Adult, infant and child. This group includes childminders and carers. The HSE recommend the all first aiders complete an annual first aid refresher courses and our online course meets this requirement.
This is not an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor or online. This course is aimed at anyone who requires a one day course in first aid for adults, infants and children. The certificate is valid for 3 years and a recommended annual refresher can be done online.
This is not an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor or online. This course is aimed at anyone who requires a course in AED use. AED units are becoming more common in the community and workplace and you can attend a local AED course in how to use these life saving units. We have a online and a 100% classroom course for this and the certificate is valid for one year to comply with recommendations. To renew complete the same course again.
This is not an HSE approved course and must be carried out by an approved instructor or online. This course is aimed at anyone who requires a course in CPR only or Basic Life Support. This is ideal for nurses or medical professionals needing annual updates to complete professional membership. The course is valid for one year and can be done 100% online or classroom based.
ProManualHandling – Manual Handling Course
This course is aimed at anyone who requires a course in manual handling. Ideal for all workplace requirements. The course is designed to meet the requirements and recommendations of the HSE Manual Handling Regulations 1992. First Aid at Work Annual Refresher – First Aid at Work Annual Refresher Course
The First Aid at Work refresher course is for anyone who wishes to fulfill the strong recommendations by the HSE (first aid regulations 1981) that all first aiders in a business should annually refresh their first aid skills. Blood Borne Pathogens Training is a mandated training program for any employee, self-employed person, or safety representative who may be exposed to blood or other body fluids.
